Domain authority checker built on the link graph

How strong is a website's link profile compared with others? SeoData answers with Domain Strength, our own score from 0 to 100. It is calculated from the quality and diversity of the sites that link to a domain, and it is shown next to every domain and every referring domain in the platform.

Our own score, not a borrowed metric

Domain Strength is a SeoData metric. It is not any third party's score, and it is not a number search engines publish or use. Search engines do not share a single authority figure for a website. Scores like ours are a way to compare link profiles quickly and consistently, and we explain how ours works so you can judge it.

How Domain Strength is calculated

The score comes from the link graph that SeoData builds from licensed data partners and our own crawler that respects robots.txt. In plain words, these factors move it.

The raw result is placed on a logarithmic 0 to 100 scale. Moving from 20 to 30 is far easier than moving from 70 to 80, because the top of the scale holds the most linked sites on the web. Scores are recalculated as the link graph updates, and the history is kept for your plan's data period.

  1. Number of unique referring domains, not raw backlinks, so one sitewide link counts as one source
  2. Strength of those referring domains, since a link from a strong site passes more weight
  3. Diversity of the sources, across different networks, topics and owners
  4. Dofollow links count fully, while nofollow, sponsored and UGC links count much less
  5. Links from obvious link networks and spam patterns are discounted

What the score does not measure

Domain Strength looks at links only. It does not measure content quality, technical health, traffic or brand demand. A high score does not guarantee rankings, and a young site with a low score can still rank well for focused topics.

Who checks domain strength with SeoData

  • Link builders who compare prospects before outreach
  • Agencies who show clients how their link profile stacks up against rivals
  • In-house teams who track whether link building is moving the profile over time
  • Partnership teams who vet sites before a sponsorship or guest post

How to read a Domain Strength score

Compare scores between sites in the same market, not across unrelated industries. Look at the trend more than the single number. A score that rises slowly while referring domains grow is healthy. A sudden jump with few new referring domains is worth a closer look in the backlink checker. To find strong sites that link to your competitors, use competitor backlinks. Score rangeWhat it usually means
0 to 20Few referring domains, a new or rarely linked site
21 to 40A small but real link profile
41 to 60A well linked site in its niche
61 to 80A strong profile with many quality sources
81 to 100Among the most linked domains on the web

Domain authority checker questions

Is Domain Strength the same as other authority scores?

No. It is our own score with its own method. Different tools calculate authority differently, so numbers from different sources should not be compared directly.

Does Google use Domain Strength?

No. Search engines do not use any third party authority score. Domain Strength is a way to compare link profiles, not a ranking factor.

How can I raise my score?

Earn links from more independent, relevant and strong sites. Recovering lost links with backlink monitoring also helps keep the score stable.

Can I check many domains at once?

Yes. Paste a list into a bulk check within your lookup limit, or use the API on Agency and Enterprise plans.
