Backlink monitoring tool that tells you when links change

Links you earned can vanish without notice. SeoData watches the backlink profile of every project, sends alerts when links appear or disappear, tells you the likely reason a link was lost and gives you a short recovery list, so you act within days instead of finding out at the end of the quarter.

Alerts on new and lost links

Each project in SeoData has backlink monitoring switched on by default. When our crawler detects a change, it lands in the project feed and in your alerts.

  1. New links, with the referring page, anchor and attributes
  2. Lost links, with the date the link was last seen and the reason
  3. Changed links, for example a link that moved from dofollow to nofollow
  4. Thresholds, so you only hear about links from domains above a strength score you choose
  5. Alerts for competitor domains, so you see the links they win as they happen

Daily or weekly email digests

Choose a daily or weekly digest per project. The digest lists new and lost referring domains first, then individual links, sorted by domain strength so the links that matter most sit at the top. Team members on your plan's seats can each pick their own schedule, or switch the digest off.

Why a link was lost

A lost link is only useful if you know what happened. SeoData checks the linking page again and records one of these reasons.

ReasonWhat it meansUsual fix
Link removedThe page is live, but the link is goneContact the site owner with the original context
Page removedThe linking page returns 404 or 410Ask for the link on a replacement page
RedirectedThe linking page now redirects elsewhereCheck whether the new page still mentions you
Changed to nofollowThe link is still there with a new attributeUsually accept, sometimes ask for a review
Your page brokeThe link points to a URL on your site that now errorsRestore the page or add a 301 redirect
Crawl blockedrobots.txt or a server error stopped the checkSeoData retries before confirming the loss

A recovery workflow, not just a list

Lost links feed straight into the AI action plan for the project. The plan groups recoverable links by reason and ranks them by impact. Links lost because of a broken page on your own site come first, since you can fix those without asking anyone. Each task includes the referring page, the target URL and the anchor, and you can mark it done once the link is back. Read how the AI SEO recommendations are built.

  1. Fix broken targets on your own site with a redirect list you can export
  2. Prepare outreach lists for removed links, with the original anchor and page
  3. Track recovered links in the same feed, so the win is recorded

Who relies on backlink monitoring

In-house teams use it as the weekly check before a reporting meeting. Agencies use it to show clients which links were won and lost each month in white label SEO reports. Link builders use it to confirm placed links stay live after the invoice is paid.

Backlink monitoring questions

How fast do alerts arrive after a link changes?

Alerts follow our crawler's recheck of the linking page. Pages with more links pointing at them are revisited more often, and each alert shows the date the change was detected.

Can I monitor competitors too?

Yes. Add competitor domains to a project and SeoData sends alerts on the links they gain and lose. To find links they have and you lack, use competitor backlinks.

Do alerts count against my lookup limit?

No. Monitoring of your projects runs in the background and does not use domain and backlink lookups.

Can I check one domain without setting up monitoring?

Yes. The backlink checker shows the full profile of any domain on demand.
